Hey WA, Prepare Now for Hotter-Than-Average Temps This Summer!
The recent warnings of a drought in Washington state have many residents concerned about how hot it’s going to get this summer.
And by 'residents', I mean ME!
The National Weather Service is predicting a summer filled with hotter-than-normal temps.
They say this summer will be 60-70% hotter than typical in practically every part of Washington state except the Western and Southwestern sides!
Oh no!
This (disappointing) report is backed up by experts at the University of Washington, the Old Farmer’s Almanac, and my own gut feelings.
HERE'S MY 'HOT' TAKE:
Take it from me, as someone who grew up in the humid summers (filled with mosquitoes) in Tennessee, the summers out here in Washington are nothing to complain about!
The only time during the summer that I would say it’s acceptable to complain about how hot it is, is if you don’t have working air conditioning, it’s part of your job to work outdoors during the summer heat, and when you have to attend a barbecue and they want everybody to “stay outside” instead of indoors with all the good air conditioning.
It’s hard for me to be at a backyard barbecue and enjoy sparkling (Treveri) cider from the flute glass and a loaded plate of potato salad (without the raisins or quinoa in it, thank you very much!), and those tangy, drippy sauce boneless barbecue wings when I am sweating bullets through my pretty sleeveless orange barbecue dress!
START YOUR SUMMER WEATHER PREPPING NOW
Let’s think ahead of some ways we can brace ourselves for whatever heat wave comes our way.
I have 3 suggestions for you.
1 . Clean out your AC air filters. (I keep telling myself to do this and I never do!)
2 . Buy a new air conditioner now while there’s plenty of them in stock before summer hits. (Dip into your recent income tax refund while you still have that little bit of extra cash on hand, ha!)
3 . Get one of those cheap backup box fans (or the standing ones) now from Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, Costco…wherever! (That way, they won’t be all gone this summer, right when you’ll be needing one the most!)
